Fearful Somali traders on Saturday returned to the Mitchells Plain Town
Centre for the first time since a "brutal" police raid 10 days ago.
Unpacking goods from a large brown box onto a wooden table, Somali
national Malika Ismail, 16, told Weekend Argus she hadn't had a decent meal
in three days after police banned her from selling anything at the Town
Centre.
She said during the raid, on March 13, police accused her of selling
drugs and illegal merchandise from her stall. 'I am very unhappy and I
never sold drugs to anyone'"I am very unhappy and I never sold drugs to
anyone, I don't even know why they think the Somalis are selling drugs
here," said Ismail. "Drugs are being sold in the Town Centre by local
gangsters and drug addicts, not us Somalis.
