Somalia: Somali president addresses UN Assembly


MOGADISHU (Mareeg)—Somali President Sheik Sharif Sheik Ahmed has addressed in the United Nations Assembly in New York on Friday and called for the world leaders to support the Somali government.

 



President Sheik Sharif Sheik Ahmed and his delegation reached in New York late on Thursday to attend the UN general Assembly.

The president requested from the International Community in his speech to help his government of restoring law and order in Somalia.

 



He also demanded from the world to give financial support for his government to restore peace and stability.

 



It is the first trip that president Sheik Sharif Ahmed arrives in New York since he was elected as president in Djibouti in January 2009.

 



Somali has not had an effective central government since 1991 when warlords overthrew President Mohamed Siad Barre.
