Somalia: Somali elders condemn mortars killed more civilians in Mogadishu
MOGADISHU (Mareeg)—Somali clan elders have strongly condemned Tuesday the mortar shelling which killed civilians in the Somali capital Mogadishu.
At least 12 civilians were killed in Bakaro market in Mogadishu and 30 others were wounded after heavy mortars landed in the Market on Monday.
The rebel militants fired mortars from Bakaro market to Mogadishu seaport, but the AU troops known as AMISOM fired back heavy mortars to the market while the civilians were in the middle of their daily work.
The elders held a meeting in Mogadishu and accused the African Union troops of being behind the mortars which killed the civilians in Bakaro market.
The chairman of Darod clan elders, Abdisalan Ahmed Turyare, read the communiqué to the reporters and sent condolences to bereaved families.
He requested from Somali president Sheikh Sheikh Ahmed to intervene the matter and pressure the African Union troops to stop the mortars they are firing back when they are targeted.
