MOGADISHU (Mareeg)—Somalia’s Information Minister, Dahir Mohahmud Gelle, denied Saturday that the Somali government was recruiting young Kenyans as soldiers.

Residents in Garrissa in eastern Kenya said earlier hundreds of Kenyan youths have been recruited by Somalia's government to cross the border and fight Islamist rebels.

Somali government has been accused of recruiting the youth in eastern Kenya and has reportedly offered about 400 dollars each month to join the government soldiers.

“We are not aware of any soldiers that are being recruited in Kenya for us,” said Dahir Mohamud Gelle, the Information Minister of the Somali government.

The Somali fragile government is facing nearly daily attacks from the Islamist rebels fighting for to topple the government led by President Sheik Sharif Sheik Ahmed.
