AFGOYE(Mareeg)—Hizbul Islam rebel group have arrested six Somali women in Afgoye, 30 kilometers south of Mogadishu and still in prison, witnesses said on Tuesday.

Residents said the women were arrested on Monday by the Islamist rebels after they demonstrated against the Islamists.

The Islamist rebels destroyed a market that the women were selling milk in Afgoye on Saturday, but the business women protested against the act of the rebels.

The Somali women have been taking a leading role in getting daily food for their children since the collapse of Somalia’s central government in 19991.

Witnesses say six women have been tortured in the town by Hizbul Islam militias and they have not brought before a court yet.

There is no word from Hizbul Islam group about the women that are still in the prison.
