Somalia: Fighting between government soldiers and Islamists rebels erupts in Hiraa
BELEDWEYE (Mareeg) – Fierce fighting between Islamist rebels of Hizbul Islam and Somali government soldiers has erupted in Beledweyn town in Hiraan region in central Somalia, witnesses said on Wednesday.
The fighting started at, Jente Kundisho ,area outside Beledweyne town in central Somalia as Hisbul Islam rebels attacked a base of the government soldiers in the area.
The warring sides exchanged heavy gunfire and most of the people in the town expressed concern about the new clashes renewed in the region.
Sheik Muse Abdi Arale, a defence secretary for the Hizbul Islam group claimed victory over the fighting and added that they captured the bases of the government soldiers in the area.
On his side, Salad Hared, an official of the Somali government in the region denied the claim by the rebels and added that the fighting was still continuing.
No casualties have been reported yet. The government soldiers and the Islamist rebels have so many times fought in the region.
