Somalia: Islamists impose overnight curfew in central town
BELEDWEYNE(Mareeg) –A curfew was imposed on the city of Beledweyne last night by Hizbul Islam insurgent group following clashes between government forces and the insurgents on Wednesday, witnesses said on Thursday.
The curfew was not announced ahead of time suggesting that something may have happened that caused the sudden announcement of the curfew.
Locals said heavily armed Hizbul Islam fighters could be seen in the town as they started their curfew on Wednesday evening adding that they were patrolling through the streets of the town whole last night.
There is no word from the Islamists about the curfew imposed in the town. The government soldiers have bases the outskirts of the town and fighting between the two sides can erupt at anytime.
