Somalia: Prominent businessman gunned down in Puntland
MOGADISHU (Mareeg) – A prominent Somali businessman has been gunned down and a civilian has also been injured in Bosasso town in Puntland regions by unknown gunmen overnight, witnesses say.
Residents said, Jama Aden Mohamed, was killed on Thursday evening in the centre of the town at a time he got out of a mosque and the killers escaped from the scene.
Some reports suggest that he was a former member of Puntland Intelligent Security (PIS) and the motive behind his killing is not known.
Puntland security forces have cordoned off the place where the man was killed, made search operations in Bosasso, and arrested several suspected people.
The move comes as insecurity has been rising in the town recently. Bosasso, a city in north eastern Somalia, administered by Puntland semiautonomous authority, is a big commercial town.
