MOGADISHU (Mareeg)—Al Shabaab has stoned a man to death accused of raping a woman in Lower Shabelle region in southern Somalia, witnesses said on Friday.

The stoned man named, Abbas Hussein Abdirahman 33, was accused of raping a woman in Baladul Amin Village near Afgoye district 30 km south of Mogadishu.

An al Shabaab judge in Merca town sentenced the man to be stoned to death. Hundreds of people were made to watch the gruesome stoning in a park in Merca town about 100 km south of Mogadishu.

The Shabaab judge said the man confessed that he raped the women and ordered to be stoned to death.

It is the first time that al Shabaab stoned to death to a man in the town since they took control of it early this year.

The group had stoned to death a man in Wanlaweyn town in Lower Shabelle region months ago and they had also stoned to death a young girl in Kismayo town in November last year.
