Somalia: New Mogadishu mayor nominated
MOGADISHU (Mareeg) – Somalia’s president Sheik Sharif Sheik Ahmed has nominated a new mayor for Mogadishu on Friday.
Abdirisak Mohamed Nur, was appointed as the new governor of Banadir region and also the mayor of the capital Mogadishu. Abdirisak changes Mohamed Osman Ali known as Dhagah Tur, the former governor and mayor of the capital.
President Sheik Sharif Sheik Ahmed addressed in a ceremony in the presidential palace, where the former mayor was handing the power to the new mayor. The president congratulated the new mayor and thanked former mayor for his past hard work to the people of Mogadishu.
The speaker of the Somali parliament, Sheik Aden Mohamed Nur, and other prominent government officials were present at the ceremony.
Three deputy mayors were also nominated by the Somali president Sheik Sharif Sheik Ahmed. Mr. Dhagah Tur, the former Mogadishu mayor who addressed at ceremony said he was glad to hand over the power to new mayor.
The new mayor, Mr. Abdirisak, said he will complete the formation of the region administration with in twenty days.
