MOGADISHU (Mareeg) – Somali government soldiers based in Ex-control Afgoye checkpoint in Mogadishu denied Saturday they were behind car accident that killed four people and injured ten others in Mogadishu on Friday afternoon.

The car accident which killed the civilians in Mogadishu on Friday afternoon came after gangs dressed as government soldiers opened fire to a mini bus that was travelling on Warshadaha Street in Mogadishu, then the mini bus collided with a lorry in the street after the driver become wounded in the gun fire by the gangs.

Afrah Ali Afrah, a deputy commander of the Somali government soldiers based in Ex-control Afgoye, said their soldiers were not those who opened the fire to mini bus.

He described the accusations against the government soldiers as baseless and propaganda against the government soldiers.

“Gangs can dress up as government soldiers and rob the people, but we are not those who opened the fire to the people yesterday,” Afrah said.

The area where the two cars collided is between a base of Burundian troops in Mogadishu and a main checkpoint manned by government soldiers.
