MOGADISHU (Mareeg)—At least one civilian has been killed and seven others have been injured in a blast that was aimed at government soldiers in Mogadishu, witnesses say.
The blast was reportedly a hand grenade thrown to government soldiers in Dharkeynley district in Mogadishu and the soldiers opened gun fire after the explosion.
“The bomb was thrown to government soldiers that were buying Kat in a market in Dharkaynley and they opened fire and the people ran away,” said Khayre a resident in Dharkeynley district.
No group has claimed the responsibility of the bomb attack. Al Shabaab and Hizbul Islam militants are fighting for to topple the transitional federal government of Somalia.
The government soldiers made search operations after the explosion and sealed off the area. Dharkeynmley is among the very few districts that the people fled to in search of safety.
Residents in the district have expressed concern about repeated blasts in their district and requested from the government to do something about the security.
