Somalia: Remaining civilians flee north Mogadishu
MOGADISHU (Mareeg)—At least 2000 families have fled from districts of north Mogadishu where the al Shabaab and government soldiers backed by African Union troops are fighting.
Fighting is ongoing in north part of the capital for the third day and at least five civilians were killed on Friday in the fighting.
The civilians reached outskirts of Mogadishu and some other families have fled to Dharkeynley district in south Mogadishu.
The mayor of Mogadishu Eng. Abdirisaq Nuune called on the remaining civilians to leave at least two km from the fighting areas.
The fighting between the government soldiers and the rebels comes as the government was planning a major offensive against the rebels.
