Coalition forces arrested 100 Al shabab suspects in Kismayo

KISMAYO (Mareeg.com)-The Somali government on Wednesday said its security forces arrested 100 people suspected of having links with the militant group of Al-Shabaab in operations in the port city of Kismayo.

General Sahardid, the army commander of Lower Jubba region said the raids are part of moves to strengthen the security of the city following five explosions on Tuesday that killed two people.

He added that the forces launched joint massive search operations that targeted members of Al-Shabaab remnants in the entire city, arresting 100 suspects and taken to the custody.

The town, 500 km south of Mogadishu, was captured Friday from Al- Shabaab by Somali government forces and African Union peacekeepers following land, sea and air strikes raged on for two months.

Al shabab spokesman for the military operations Sheikh Abdiaziz Abu Musab said their withdrawal from Kismayo last Friday was a ‘tactical retreat’, but vowed deadly attacks against Somali forces and their foreign allied AU troops.

Kismayo has been relatively tense and chaos following Al-Shabaab’s surprise withdrawal in last Friday.
